Pre-Season Bike Prep: Graphics, Seat Covers, and Accessories

08 Jul, 26

Get Race-Ready Before the Season Starts

There's nothing worse than rocking up to round one with faded graphics, a torn seat cover, or missing number plates. Pre-season prep is your chance to sort it all out — and make sure your bike looks as fast as it rides.

Here's the checklist we recommend for every rider heading into the NZ motocross season.

1. Fresh Graphics Kit

If your current kit is peeling, faded, or just tired-looking, now's the time to replace it. A new MX graphics kit transforms your bike and protects your plastics from scratches and UV damage through the season.

  • Check for lifting edges or bubbles — these get worse with heat and mud
  • Confirm your kit is cut for your exact year and model
  • Consider a full kit (shrouds, side panels, fenders, airbox) for a complete refresh

Shop by brand: Yamaha | Honda | Kawasaki | KTM | GasGas

2. Number Plates and Backgrounds

Your number plate backgrounds take a beating — they're the first thing to crack, fade, or peel. Replace them before the season so your race number is clearly visible from the start.

  • Make sure your number is legible from a distance (race officials will thank you)
  • Match your number plate background to your new graphics kit for a clean, cohesive look

3. Seat Cover

A worn seat cover is a safety issue, not just a cosmetic one. Slippery or torn covers affect your grip and body positioning through corners and jumps.

  • Look for a ribbed or gripper-style cover for better traction
  • Check that the cover fits your seat pan correctly — a loose cover will shift under load
  • Pre-season is the best time to install a new cover before the mud and rain of the NZ season sets in

4. Plastics Check

Before you apply new graphics, inspect your plastics for cracks, warping, or deep gouges. New graphics on damaged plastics won't sit flat and will peel faster.

  • Replace cracked fenders or shrouds before applying a new kit
  • Clean plastics thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol before installation for maximum adhesion

5. Accessories and Finishing Touches

The small stuff adds up. Run through this final checklist before your first ride:

  • Handguards — protect your levers and knuckles
  • Grip tape or new grips — worn grips affect control
  • Fork guards — keep your stanchions scratch-free
  • Rim decals — a quick, affordable way to finish the look
